Wuxi Revisited

It had been about two years since I had been in Wuxi, and unless I had seen it for myself I could never imagine that a city could change so much in such a short time. There were so many new buildings and even one local person laughed at the map I had and said it was very much out of date.

It is surprising to me that a city if 3-4 million has three foreigners bars - two Aussie and one English bar as well as many Chinese owned bars, where a city of 6 million like Nanjing only has one foreigner bar and very few Chinese owned bars - but there you have it.

Although it was cold, both Rob and I enjoyed out time here, and Rob was quite impressed with Ling Shan Park where the 88 meter tall bronze Buddha is.

Carefree Garden

This park is in the middle of Wuxi and has a lot of history. Apparantly the water here was well known all over China for its superb quality for tea. One emperor had the water shipped hundreds of kilometers away to his palace, because of its quality.

There were some very old trees in this garden - from memory there was a Ginko Tree that was around 1000 years old.

Rob saw crosses - I saw swastikas !!!!!

Pagoda - Old Wuxi

We climed to the top and as we got to the 2nd to top level I felt this drip drip drip on my head. Winding my way up the final narrow stairs 3 chinese boys came down - bastards had urinated on the floor and it was dripping thru the cracks in the wooden floor !!!! I was less than impressed.

Pagoda

Looks like it is on a lean - but it is not.
