Crystal & Friend 2003-2004

Crystal is on the right and was a Junior 2 student. Her English skills were Ok for her age and she was also quite an artist. This Junior 2 Classs was one of my favourites. They were mostly good kids albeit a little naughty - but they liked me and me them. Other teachers hated this class.

Catherine - Spetember 2004

Catherine is the Senior Music Teacher at my old school. She became a good friend. Here she is singing at the opening ceremony for the 2004-2005 school year and 5th anniversary celebration that we were invited back for.

Catherine is an accomplished Opera Singer - Western Opera, not Chinese.

This was the end of the English Singing Competition for the whole school. Judging was a bit unfair as most of the judges were from the Primary School - I was one of three judges from the senior school.

Bored 2003-2004

A boring cold day. The annual sports day is held in late Autum and is very very cold. Most students just enjoy two days off classes.

Emil & Summer 2003-2004

Taken on the school trip early 2004. Summer at the back was one of the friendliest students I had. Her Englsih was OK, but she did not study hard enough.

The Junior 1 Kids got a great laugh in watching their Foreign Teacher play the fool. It was hard work to stay on!

Mr Zhu and Friends

Mr Zhu (pronounced jew) is the boy on the right. It's not his real name but we all called him that because he love pork and Zhu is the Chinese word for Pig. I cannot remember their names, but these three boys were a lot of fun. They were Junior 2 students. The boy on the left had very good English skills.

Only one of these students returned the next year for Senior 1. They were a misbehaved class, but we had fun.

Her Englsih was not good, but a good quiet student. She excelled at Traditional Chinese Dancing.

Many of these students were not allowed to come back the next year!!!. Some very bad young people in this lot - boys and girls.

The Summer Camps run for a week at a time and are basically recruiting exercises.

Rex

A Junior 1 Student. Rex was the name I gave him as I thought it suited him for some reason. A real little emperor when he didn't get his own way - a good kid generally though.

Don't Fall In

We all had a lot of fun that day - I got quite wet whilst rafting as many of the kids wanted me to fall in and when they realised I knew what I was doing they splashed the hell out of me with their poles.

I cannot remember her name, but she was a very friendly girl - we got on very well, although a bit lazy in English classes. She was the only student I allowed to hold Ben when he was a baby.

This girl was the best student in English I had, you could have a real conversation with her.

These were Senior 1 students wither their dippy teacher with thye glasses on. She was their Chinese English Teacher and her English was worse than many of her students!!! A common thing here in China today.

Xmas 2002

Each class has its own party on Xmas Eve - I was expected to spend time in each - it got a bit much in the end - they all wanted me to sing and dance & I don't do either for anyone.

Simon was another Kiwi who taught at the school after Gary left and before Paul arrived. He was only there for three months as he hated it and China - he did make it his own prison though.

Sugar and Friend

Sugar is the boy in the white shirt. A Senior one student for 2003-2004.

I had him for two years, his English was good, but he was a little bit of a bad boy. Was caught red handed doing it with a Junior 2 girl the previous year. The girl was sent back to her family in Taiwan - he was aloowed to stay - It certainly is a man's world here!

Summer was a nice girl, pity I cannot say the same about her boyfriend being a good boy. Early in the 2003-2004 school year he threatened to kill me!!! I just laughed in his face and he tried to punch and kick me, but it was a little difficult for him as I put my hand on his forehead and kept pushing him back - my reach was a lot longer than his. He calmed down a few weeks later and became a not too bad student in my class - but not in others.

The males teacher with glasses on was a great guy and very friendly to me. Unfortuneatlt he was sacked for going AWOL for four days. He was a good teacher as well.
